Early 2025 Julia Merrion got an offer to star in a movie called PipeDreem. This movie is her first professional film.
Julia spent all four years of high school starring in multiple Holy Family productions. She played Jane in Marry Poppins and was one of the step sisters in Cinderella. Her acting career started early when she did acting classes here in Denver. “I started acting when I was 9, I began acting classes at the Robert and Julie Newman Center for Theater education and took two years of acting classes there before I began acting in musical theater when I was 11.” Her time at the Robert and Julie Newman Center for theater education jump started her acting career leading her to her movie today.
After she left high school she came across this movie in a somewhat unusual way. “The rising star said, “PipeDreem” is my first film and came into my life in a very unique way when Carlito Hale (director and writer) reached out to me on social media after seeing a self tape I had posted and he told me he was beginning to write a story and since he knew I was an actresses he wanted me to read through the script and tell him if it made sense and if it was good writing. At the time only about 1/3 of the script had been written. After reading through it we began working on pieces of it together and he offered me the lead role. Once I accepted he began to write Chris’ character around me and my acting ability and the rest of the story flowed. He then pitched the movie idea to multiple production companies in the Denver area and three of them picked it up and joined us on this crazy journey. This cast is so unbelievably talented I can’t put it into words. It really was a collision of talent from all angels, the writing, acting, cinematography, etc.”, Merrion said.
Tragedy struck last week when the movie premier was canceled the morning of. Due to a fire in Denver, Director Carlito Hale got a call early Saturday morning with the terrible news. Although this devastated the crew the premiere has now been rescheduled for February 20th at 5:30 and 8 pm.
Julia wrapped on this movie this past fall. She has some big plans this upcoming year. She said, “PipeDreem” has brought me so many incredible new opportunities, not only an acting, but in my career advancement, I was on my news for the release of the movie, and immediately after wrapping, I was offered another lead on a TV show called “The Clubhouse”, which will begin filming in March!” We are so proud of our alumni for all she has done in her acting career this year.
