A sad and shocking case in Tampa, Florida, has finally come to an end. Two men, Lenard White and Sheldon Robinson, were found guilty of planning the killing of a 17-year-old girl. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the two men paid someone to kill the teen so she could not speak in court about another crime they were part of.
The young girl, whose name was not shared to protect her family, was going to be an important witness.Prosecutors said that White was terrified the girl would testify against him. He decided to silence her before she could tell her story in court. White contacted his associate, Sheldon Robinson, and paid him several thousand dollars to carry out the killing. The girl was shot near her home in Tampa, which left her friends and family heartbroken.
Detectives worked for months collecting proof. They looked at text messages, phone calls, and bank records that showed the two men had planned the crime ahead of time. After reviewing all the evidence, a jury decided both men were guilty.
“This was a cruel act against an innocent young person,” said U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg. “These men tried to escape justice by taking a life, but justice caught up with them.”
White and Robinson were both found guilty of murder-for-hire, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice. They could spend the rest of their lives in federal prison.
The victim’s family said they were thankful that the case was finally over. “We miss our daughter every day,” her mother said. “We’re glad the people who hurt her will never be able to do this to anyone else.”
This case shocked many people in Florida and showed how far investigators will go to make sure that even the most painful crimes do not go unpunished. This case reminds us that no voice should ever be silenced especially the voice of someone brave enough to tell the truth.
