The sophomore’s had their service retreat last Wednesday and Thursday, September 25 and 26.
The first day was a day of service where the sophomore’s were split into four groups. Each group went to a different organization to help out for the day either in organizing or cleaning.
One group went to Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery. This cemetery is in Wheat Ridge and is operated by the Archdiocese of Denver. There the sophomores helped clean the grounds pulling weeds and picking up trash.
Another group went to the Little Flower. The Little Flower is a charity that provides food and clothes to the less fortunate. There the sophomore’s helped organize the food bank and clothing bank.
The third group went to Marisol Family where they sorted and organized diapers and baby clothes. Marisol Family provides for families by providing materials especially for expectant mothers providing diapers and clothes.
The last group went to Marisol Health. Marisol Health is a pro-life organization that helps expecting women in caring for them. The sophomores painted and helped clean the grounds.
Mr. Yunt stated, “This year has been the best sophomore retreat by far.”
The second day, the sophomores went to Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder. This was a day of reflection for the sophomores. They were given two talks. The first presenter gave a talk on the Corporal Works of Mercy. The second presenter gave a talk on serving others and building up your peers.
Fr. John, on being asked about how he saw the sophomores taking it in, said, “I think they all enjoyed it, it was eye-opening experience for them.”
The sophomore retreat is a retreat that is surrounded by the topic of service. The sophomore’s learn the importance of serving others from the less fortunate to their family, friends and neighbors.
