Holy Family girls soccer is halfway through the season, and so far they’ve been doing really well with a 5-1-1 record, and they’re 1-0 in league play. But the season hasn’t been perfect. One of the hardest games was against Cheyenne Mountain. Last year, Holy Family lost to them 8-1 at their place, so going into this game everyone was pretty nervous.
At the start, though, Holy Family came out strong. They were playing hard and keeping up with the Red Tailed Hawks, ending the first half tied 1-1. That gave the team a lot of confidence because it showed they could compete. But in the second half, things started to fall apart. Cheyenne Mountain picked up the pace, and Holy Family couldn’t keep up, ending in a tough 9-1 loss.
The next week, the team had to bounce back quickly because they had a long 2.5-hour drive to Granby to face Middle Park. The first half ended 0-0, but Holy Family was definitely the better team. After halftime, they came out ready to win. They scored their first goal off a cross, and about ten minutes later, they scored again to make it 2-0. Later in the game, after a defensive stop, all the freshmen got involved in a play up the field, ending with one of them scoring her first goal of the season, which was a really cool moment.
After that, they played their first league game at home against Frederick. It was a close game, but Holy Family scored in the first half and held on to win 1-0.
To finish the week, they played PRA on Saturday morning. They had a lot of chances and were up 2-0 at halftime. In the second half, they kept the pressure going and scored a penalty kick, winning 3-0.
