To start the year off Cooper Flagg was finding his footing in NBA. From being the main option on his Duke Blue Devils team to taking the first option on an injured Dallas Mavericks team. With all the injuries on the Mavs, Jason Kidd knew this was the year to develop his younger core. Flagg took this opportunity and did not look back.
At the start of the season Cooper Flagg started his career out like any rookie as he was inconsistent. However, as of recently, Flagg has been balling OUT. He has been competing for Rookie of the year against Kon Knueppel and Kon has been the favorite as he broke the rookie 3 point record. This seemed to trigger something in Coopers head and in a 2 game span Flagg has dropped 96 points.
His game against the Orlando Magic he was the youngest NBA player to drop 50 points. His game was incredibly efficient shooting 60% from the field with some great highlights. Everything looked smooth as his jump shots were falling and he finished tough layup. However, the Mavericks lost the game spoiling Flagg’s historic night.
His last game against the lakers showcased his consistency to step up in big games. Flagg dropped 45 points on very good efficiency and almost had a triple double. Even thought the Lakers are dealing with some injuries, this is still a convincing performance from the rookie.
After these all time performances, Cooper Flagg is establishing new milestones for all new coming rookies. Setting the single game scoring record for a teenager and most likely winning ROTY. All this is great news for the Mavericks franchise as Flagg is flourishing into an all star. Most of their lineup is out with injuries and bringing everyone back next season will put them in contention for a deep playoff run.
