What’s better than March Madness? The atmosphere and the upsets make for a great stage for end of the college basketball season. Anyone could win it all, but who are the favorites?
The 1 seeds still alive:
Duke, Michigan, and Arizona
All three of these teams have dominated all year. Michigan and Arizona breezed through the first two rounds and didn’t have to sweat either of their matchups. Duke on the other hand, despite being the top overall seed, had two competitive games against Siena and TCU. Siena led the first game at halftime by 11 but freshman star Cameron Boozer led a powerful comeback and avoided a heartbreaking upset. All three of these teams have what it takes to win it all, but it’s all about getting hot at the right time.
Lowest seeds to make the Sweet Sixteen:
Iowa and Texas
Both of these teams had insane paths to make it to where they are. Iowa had a heroic three pointer to upset the number one see Florida which marked one of the biggest upsets of this year. Texas was a play in 11 seed that was able to win three games in the weekend and make it to the Sweet Sixteen.
Big Ten Presence:
Purdue, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois
A Big Ten team hasn’t won a National Championship since Michigan State in 2000, and this could be the year they break through. All of these team have been tested a lot throughout the year and are playing great basketball at the best time.
3 Dark Horses to win it all:
Saint John’s, Michigan State, Arkansas
All of these teams are coaches by Hall of Fame level coaches which gives you an edge in March. All three of these teams are led by elite point guards including Darius Acuff and Jeremy Fears. The combination of good coaching and good experience could be what it takes to win it all.
