Why did you come to Holy Family?
I retired from the public school because my wife was very ill. I was looking for a job, wanted to stay in education. I found there was a job here. Someone told me, I applied, and that way I can keep teaching, which is a love of mine.
What’s something that makes Holy Family special?
Me being here, number one. Is that it? No, I’m just joking.
It’s special, I think because of the administration that we’ve had has made it special. A lot of times the students make it special because they will work hard and they will do the job. Most of all I like the prayer, I like saying the pledge, and I like a dress code. I feel public schools will be much better if they had those three things.
What is your favorite memory of teaching?
I’ve taught for so long. I have so many, I think my favorite memory or all the students who come back after they become successful, and talk to me, the students who connect with me after they graduate from college to let me know how they did, what they’re doing, seeing students after they get married. And then the last one is, I’ve taught for so long, I’ve taught grandkids of grandkids. That’s cool. That’s so special.
How did you feel when you won state football in 2023?
I felt awesome, anytime you reach that goal it’s so special, but to me…I’ve coached for so long, that after I sat down on the bench and had tears in my eyes, and then my family came up, we had tears together. And it’s the second time that I’ve coached on a team that won the title. To know that you actually have the athletes in charge of, get to that pinnacle makes you feel happy for them that they achieve something after working hard. Okay, last one.
What is something that you live by?
Couple two or three.
Number one, Know who I am. I refuse to change. I am who I am.
Number two, be a goal setter, and accomplish them. Your dreams are only dreams, but you have to work hard to get there.
The last one I believe by, is smile and smile and be a villain. I’ll say hi to anybody, and I’ll smile at anybody, whether I know you or not. But you don’t really know what I’m thinking, do you?
Overall, I love teaching. I love students. I think teaching’s the best job in the world. I think the rewards are not the money. The rewards are in watching young people grow into young adults. When they come back, you see that maybe you had a small piece of the success they’ve had in their life.
