This Tuesday when Pablo Uribe pulled up to school, he was not alone. He brought his cousin, Edgar from Mexico to come tour the school and spend a day with him to see what it’s like. I thought it would be a good idea to interview him for a story to get to know him better and better understand what it feels like to be an international student. The interview was in Spanish but I obviously translated it for everyone reading who may not know Spanish.
Question 1 : Where are you from?
Answer : I’m from Chihuahua, Mexico. I’ve lived there my whole life but I was originally born here in Colorado.
Question 2 : What are you planning on doing while your here? Do you plan to stay here?
Answer : I am looking at different schools right now and I’m planning on finishing high school here. But I think I might eventually go back to Mexico to help my parents out with their farm.
Question 3 : What’s your favorite color?
Answer : I like yellow.
Question 4 : What’s your favorite thing about Pablo?
Answer : I like that he speaks English. He’s also a pretty chill dude and we get along really well.
Question 5 : Do you like Holy Family so far and do you think you’ll be attending school here?
Answer : I mean I like it but it’s kind of hard with the language barrier to understand but I think it’s a nice school and if I learn English in enough time, I will be coming here in the fall.
I had fun interviewing and getting to know Edgar better and what it’s like for him to be here without knowing English and pretty much knowing nobody but his family.
