Mr Martinez is a lot of students favorite science teacher. Today, I got the chance to interview him and get to know him a little better. Mr Martinez is a 31 year-old teacher at Holy Family High school. He is a father to an adorable toddler. Mr Martinez began working at a warehouse job then switched to a small substitute teaching job where he fell in love with teaching. During our interview he mentioned how he has always loved science and took the pre-med track after high school but obviously became a teacher instead.
I was able to learn more about Mr Martinez and it opened my eyes to see how much he loves learning. Not only learning in an academic aspect, but he enjoys learning about new places and new things.
He mentioned how he and his wife took their honeymoon in Japan in a village called Nara. They were initially supposed to spend their honeymoon in Greece but because covid hit, that trip later turned into a honeymoon to Nara. Nara is best to visit in the spring because of their cherry blossoms, in autumn because of their red maples in Nara Park, and in winter simply because its calmer, quieter, and there’s typically less people. According to tradition, the deity Takemikazuchi-no-Mikoto first arrived in Nara riding a white deer. After that, deer were seen as protectors of the city, messengers of god, and living symbols of purity and blessing. In Shinto religion they revere deer and this makes for hundreds of deer to move throughout the city. The deer can bow to you, and you can bow back and then feed them a little cookie that’s sold throughout the town, specifically for the deer. When Mr Martinez thinks of his happy zone he thinks of Nara.
Some quick little facts about Mr Martinez are otter pops remind him of his childhood, his celebrity crush growing up was a french actress named Mélanie Laurent, his favorite tv show is Futurama, his favorite movie is “Kung Pow! Enter the Fist”, his biggest role model is his dad because they’re very similar, if he had a superpower, it would be to control time, and his favorite student ever is Kenny Kirwin because he was amazing to teach and very funny.
