Holy Family Senior Lorelai Frauenfelder spent last week in Austin, Texas at the Lee and Joe Jamail Aquatic Center, racing against the best of the best. Her competitors even featured some Olympians, but how did Frauenfelder stack up?
Her lineup over the few days was stacked, racing the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, and the 50 butterfly.
Not only was she in six events over the course of four day the TYR Pro Series is formatted similarly to the Olympics. The pool is switched to long course, which traditionally is only trained over the summer season. The format for the meet is prelims, semifinals, and finals, so for some of her events there were three opportunities to race. Top 24 in each event made it back to semifinals, with then the top 16 making it back to finals. For finals the top eight swim in the A Final and 9-16 race in the B consolation final.
Frauenfelder made it back to semifinals in every event besides the 50 freestyle. and had final appearances in the 50
butterfly (A Final), the 100 butterfly (B Final), and the 100 freestyle (B Final). This is insanely impressive considering her competition featured names like Simone Manuel, Summer McIntosh, and Regan Smith.
Lorelai competed directly against world record holder and Olympic gold medalist Summer McIntosh in the 200 individual medley. She also competed with Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Manuel in the 50 freestyle.
With the 3A high school state swim meet coming up on February 13th and 14th at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic center we can’t wait to see how Frauenfelder competes, although this time she won’t be racing against Olympians.
