In one short week the Holy Family Cheer and Poms team will fly down to Orlando to compete at UCA Division 2 cheerleading and dance nationals. How are they preparing?
Over the last few weeks if you have been at the school after school you have defiantly seen this hard working group of athletes. There practices have been multiple hours long, and have had guest coaches coming in to finalize their routines. The Holy Family poms team has been to nationals for the past three seasons. Their second season they had an amazing 3rd place game day placement. Placing there name among some of the greatest pom teams ever. When speaking with Senior captain Gracie about her goals for nationals this year, “We really wanna get a medal this year again, hopefully first. I think we also wanna prove state wrong and we will do that by competing well. This is our revenge competition. We have been working really hard to accomplish all that we dreamed of.” The poms team will be competing four amazing routines that have all scored high in the past, we will see how they score among the greatest next weekend.
The cheerleading team will be heading to nationals for the first time ever this season. This is especially impressive because they took a year off from competing last season and have completely re built their team this season. They have placed in the top 3 multiple times this season and took home two regional championships. They worked hard to bid two routines to nationals, bids are given to the highest scoring routines in each division. Junior competitive captain Araiya says, “I am very excited to see how we do at nationals. I can’t wait to compete in a division with teams that are our size, and compete against new teams we have never seen before. I think we can do well but our goal is to compete our highest scoring routines yet. ” The cheerleaders will hit the mat next Friday to compete with all the best cheerleaders and see where they end up.
The new big thing for our spirit teams is their combined routine. They have been practicing together multiple times a week to make a beautiful routine. Last time they competed at UCA/UDA they placed fourth in their combined division. They will compete this routine one final time before nationals this Saturday at UDA. Everyone is very excited for this routine to shine in this combined division at nationals. With all those amazing athletes on that floor we know they will bring some power to that nationals floor.
