Seventh and eighth graders at Walhampton School in Lymington, Hampshire launched a cute Teddy Bear into the stratosphere’s. The bears name is bradford and he was strapped to a weather balloon in collaboration with the Southampton University Spaceflight Society. The bear carries a camera and soared to a high altitude of 16.7 miles above earth. Bradford captured the whole journey for the students to see.
The school combined with Southampton University of Space lift Society because they wanted to capture science in a fun way. The bear Bradford floated high above Henley-on-Thames on November 10. Then suddenly the bear slipped free from the balloon and drifted away making a huge search for Bradford. He was meant to parachute to safety with all the other balloon cargo.
The school posted on social media “If you have any information regarding his whereabouts, no matter how small, please let us know, video footage or any details would be hugely appreciated.”
The Teddy Bear has still not been found yet. The school is super eager to find him. The school wants to capture the camera and see all magnificent sites Bradford saw at 16 miles above the earth.
schools science teacher Ellie Robinson explains that Bradford did something amazing by making it 16 miles above the earth. She says even though the teddy bear wasn’t found right away it was still an amazing learning experience and showed each student how fun and exciting science can be.
Bradfords journey wasn’t just about science but far more meaningful. This tiny little bear showed how hard-work and dreaming big can make a huge difference. Bradford will never forgotten and will always show the team work and small project of imagination each children had.
Overall, the Teddy Bear was sent by the school in collaboration with Southampton University Spaceflight Society in order to help the students learn science in an exciting way.
