With CHSAA state spirit competition rapidly approaching, how is our Holy Family cheerleading team preparing?
The cheerleading team has been working everyday around the clock to prepare. This is their state debut in a new division after taking a year off of competing. They will hit the mat on Thursday of next week in the 4A/5A game-day division.
The first and biggest thing they have done to prepare was changing their band dance music. They started the season with the band dance song, Cotton eyed joe. This song worked well but they wanted something different. They spent hours last week listening to new band songs, they landed on smooth criminal by Michael Jackson. This new song meant new choreography to make this routine more dynamic and fun to watch. This change has been accompanied by new cheer choreography. This new choreography has people moving with props the whole time.
Another thing the team has prioritized has been a balance of time working hard and team bonding. One of their favorite ways to reset after a full out is playing games. The most popular game being chicken in a hen house the game they have lovingly re-named chicken in a penthouse. This game where one person calls different commands and you and your partner have to do. These commands include man overboard, fish in a bowl, lovers leap , and so much more. The team enjoys this game and you can often see the coaches playing with the girls. When they play games it helps them to bond, a stronger team bond means a stronger routines.
Overall this team has been working hard to prepare for state . Each of the ten girls on the mat and all of their coaches this season bring something brand new to this team. Although they are tiny they are mighty and are so ready to go show off the routine they have worked so hard for this season.
