The Tigers kicked off their season at the Saint Vrain Aquatic Center late Tuesday night with a 140 to 130 win against the Longmont Trojans.
At the first meet of the season, the expectations remained low, but the Tigers showed up and showed out. Starting in the medley relay finished just short to the Longmont relay. The group of Jackson, Brougham, Logan, and Diaz finished with a time of 2:24.12.
Sophomore Megan Genzenbach had an extremely close race with Longmont Sophomore Alessia Daelli. Grenzenbach barely finished first with a time of 2:23.04 just ahead of Daelli’s 2:23.72. Grenzenbach’s time was good enough to achieve her first state qualifying time of the season.
The Tigers won five individual events. Grenzenbach won the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle in 59.40, Junior Elena Perrotto also started her season off extremely strong and came just short of a state qualifying time in
the 50 freestyle. Her time of 27.72 was just short of the qualifying time of 27.70. Senior Kailyn Tucker won the 100 Butterfly in 1:07.63 qualifying for the state meet. Sophomore Cece Brougham won the 100 breaststroke in a 1:20.48 less than 1 second off the state qualifying time.
Holy Family also has a winning 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:56.65. The team of Opie, Perrotto, Tucker, and Grenzenbach will continue to improve their already state qualifying time as they get closer to the state championship in February.
With the strong start to the season, you can bet that the Tigers will only continue to improve as the season goes on.
