Kairos is a retreat that Juniors from all over the nation partake in every year. It lasts three days, and it is overnight. You dive into your spiritual connection with God, as well as being in the presence of people who connected with God and had experienced Kairos before.
This past week, half of the junior class here at Holy Family went on their Kairos. The girls had 55 attendees, and the guys had about 20. With them, they have senior leaders who experienced Kairos the year before and help them to enjoy and embrace the retreat.
A group of 13 seniors headed up to the mountains on Tuesday night to set everything up. We left the school at about 4:3o pm on Tuesday night and arrived at about 6:00 pm. We got there and immediately had to set up and get ready for the Juniors to arrive for their retreat.
The Juniors headed up to the mountains on Wednesday morning, leaving the school at 8:00 in the morning, or around there, assuming that everything went as planned. They arrived at the retreat center at about 10:00. Once they get here, we get right into the retreat. We send them to their rooms to put everything away and get into our groups.
We take the juniors’ phones to allow them to get closer to God and nature without the distractions of social media.
The days start at 7:30 am, with breakfast at 8:00. After that, we get into our next day. We do the retreat, and we get closer to God. Bedroom checks start at 10:30 pm. This takes place on Thursday and Friday, and on Friday, everyone, teachers, students, and seniors alike, leave at about 3:00 pm to get back to the school for mass at 5:00 pm. The Juniors are then free to go and live out the fourth day.
