Cade Cunningham and the Pistons faced the Washington Wizards on Monday, November 10th, 2025. The Pistons, who are the best team currently in the East, beat the Wizards in an overtime thriller, 137-135. Although the basketball game was phenomenal and the Pistons ultimately won, it wasn’t the most surprising thing that happened.
Cunningham performed the second-worst shooting percentage ever against the Wizards. Cunningham shot 45 field goal attempts and only made 14 of them. Cunningham went 2-for-11 from three-point range and was shooting awfully. He missed 31 shots, surpassing even Kobe Bryant’s 30-miss game. Although a horrible shooting performance, he still managed to score 46 points. He finished with 46 points, including 16 made free throws, with 12 rebounds, 11 assists, five steals, and two blocks. He recorded a triple-double despite his disgusting shooting performance.
Cunningham set a record for most missed shots in a game since 1976. With his triple-double and a couple of steals, his performance makes him the first player to reach all those totals in a single game since the NBA began tracking steals and blocks in 1973–74.
Cunningham’s relentless effort helped the Pistons overcome a late deficit and secure their seventh straight win. His teammate Daniss Jenkins hit a clutch three-pointer to force overtime and added 24 points off the bench, while Jalen Duren contributed 19 points and 14 rebounds.
The Pistons are looking like an up-and-coming team this year. They are leading the East division. Detroit is progressing every year, after being one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association.
This game will likely be remembered not just for the stats, but for the sheer willpower it took to carry a shorthanded team to victory. Cade Cunningham didn’t just play—he battled, and in doing so, etched his name into NBA lore.
