How old is too old to go trick or treating?
Every Halloween, neighborhoods fill with children going door to door asking for candy. In their costumes, trick or treating is one of the most beloved traditions of Halloween, but, how old is too old to go trick or treating?
Traditionally, trick-or-treating has been viewed as for children. Many people associate it with the magic of childhood. Dressing up and collecting candy from neighbors feels exciting and innocent. By the time most kids reach their teenage years, especially around 14, whispers about outgrowing it arise. At that age, they might prefer going to parties, haunted houses, or handing out candy instead.
On the other hand, some believe these teenagers should be able to keep the magic alive. By dressing up, and getting candy, as long as teenagers are respectful why not? Halloween, particularly trick or treating, is about fun. In fact, trick or treating is a safe activity for teenagers to celebrate the Halloween spirit instead of turning to risky alternatives. Teacher and parent, Mr. Yunt, says “As long as kids are not doing something stupid, they should get candy. There is worse things they could be doing.”
In the end, there’s no exact age when someone becomes “too old” to trick-or-treat. It depends on their attitude and their reasons for going out. If a teenager still finds joy in dressing up, and connecting with communities, there’s no real harm in it. Halloween should be a night where everyone, young or old, can have fun as long as they respect the spirit of the tradition.
