When is the right time to start celebrating Christmas?
This has been a long-standing debate, and people have diverse opinions. Some people will put their Christmas stuff up the day after Halloween, others will wait till the day after Thanksgiving, and others will wait till the start of December. Whatever your preference is, you are a part of the debate that has been going on for hundreds of years.
Radio stations have started playing their Christmas music by the beginning of November, all the way through Christmas. Hallmark starts playing their Christmas movies in October. This year they start on October 17th, 2025.
We asked around Holy Family when they think, or do, put up their Christmas decorations.
One Student said, “We put it up the week before Thanksgiving, because it takes too long to put up, like three weeks.”
One teacher said, “If he could, he would wait till December 20th, but since I can’t, I put it up the first week of December.” Already, we have two different views.
We talked to more students who said, “November first, the earlier the better.”
One of the Lunch Ladies said, “Right after Halloween, November first, the sooner the better. Thanksgiving is a day, Christmas is a whole season.”
A teacher says, “The weekend after Thanksgiving, one Holiday at a time.”
As you can tell, even our School is divided. I asked many different people, and we had responses from “Saturday, November 1st” to “the week after Thanksgiving” and “December 1st. The different possibilities are crazy, and everybody disagrees.
That is why this is one of the most debated topics in the country, because no one agrees, not even our school. Not even my friends and I.
