Say Hi to Snapchat’s New “My AI”

All over the world, Snapchat is an essential part of people’s daily lives. On average, Snapchat has around 750 million active monthly users. The app allows users to text their friends, post on their stories, snap pictures with funny filters, and pin your three closest friends at the top of your friend list. Additionally, every Snap user has the opportunity to customize an avatar called a Bitmoji. You can make this avatar look exactly like you, and the face appears next to your name in a friend’s phone. If you share your locations with your friends, they can even see your Bitmoji on the Snap Map. When your friends share their location with you, you can also see their bitmoji on the Snap Map.

Recently, Snapchat launched a chatbot named My AI. Without warning, the bot was slowly put on people’s phones and pinned at the top of their Snapchat friend list. Users can customize the Bitmoji for their own AI or rename it to anything they would like. My AI will have a normal conversation with users, but will not write essays or scripts, such as ChatGPT. However, My AI can help with other homework like calculus, as it can solve integrals.

The chatbot can be conversed with, but it will not answer certain questions. Any topics of a political, violent, or inappropriate nature will be strictly avoided. Snapchat employees are still fine tuning what My AI will and will not answer.

Snapchat has specifically designed My AI to be like a friend. The profile looks like any other Snapchat user, complete with a Bitmoji and username. Its replies use friendly and happy language, which makes people want to talk to it. Sources speculate that My AI could create a boost in Snapchat’s profits. According to Evan Spiegel, Snapchat’s CEO, My AI is just the beginning of new technology that will be implemented into Snapchat.
