There are many different Christmas traditions from all around the world, but the most common are Christmas trees. Although the reason for Christmas trees is unknown, many believe it is based on the Paradise Tree, a symbol of the Garden of Eden. However, others believe that it originated from wooden structures, or Christmas pyramids. Here are some fun facts about Christmas trees.

  1. All trees came from the forest until 2001.
  2. The first Christmas tree lot was in 1851 in New York. 
  3. President Coolidge started the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the White House lawn in 1923
  4. In 1963, the National Christmas Tree was not lighted until December 22nd because of a national 30-day period of mourning following the assassination of President Kennedy.
  5. Christmas trees are grown in all 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska.
  6. Christmas trees take an average of 7-10 years to mature.
  7. An acre of Christmas trees provides for the daily oxygen requirements of 18 people.
