Rainn Wilson, who plays Dwight Kurt Schrute III in the popular late 2000s sitcom The Office, has declared that he has changed his name in order to raise awareness for climate change and is also encouraging others to do the same.

Rainn Wilson, now “Rainnfall Heat Wave Rising Sea Levels Wilson” has changed his title on all of his social media platforms and his “fancy writing paper.” However, Wilson was not able to fully change his name on Twitter due to the new owner’s, Elon Musk, guidelines. Musk was able to charge those who would like to be verified for a price of $7.99 a month.

Wilson not only called out Elon Musk but also called upon other celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Cardi B, Jack Black, and Samuel L. Jackson.

Wilson is now encouraging others to seek out an environmental advocacy group, the Arctic Basecamp’s “Arctic Name Changer.” This would allow for people to change their names on social media platforms to raise awareness and gain attention of other world leaders. These world leaders are planning on attending an international climate change conference in Egypt.

Wilson now says, “With the help of my scientist friends at Arctic Basecamp, I’ve changed my name to Rainfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson. This is no joke, I’m a serious as the melting Arctic, which amplifies global risks, including extreme weather events around the globe.” Wilson is also a board member of the Arctic Basecamp helping to improve the planet’s future.

Rainn Wilson asks those aware to the to ArcticRiskName.org and create their own name to help awareness. Some believe that these decisions to change names are not going to have the outcome that is desired. Others also say that a name change is not a substantial action that can change the course of the environment.
