The Vampire Diaries is Leaving Netflix!

Rumors of The Vampire Diaries leaving Netflix in early 2022 has left fans angry and upset.

Created by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, The Vampire Diaries has been a fan favorite and popular show ever since the first season was released on September 10th, 2009. It kept its place as one of the most popular teen series during the past couple of decades.

The show follows the life of a 17-year-old girl, Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev), who loses both of her parents in a car accident. She then falls in love with a 162-year-old vampire, Stefan Salvatore (played by Paul Wesley) and his 170-year-old brother Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerholder). The 2 brothers struggle to protect Elena from numerous villains and threats through Mystic Falls.

Since all 8 seasons of the show have been released on Netflix and the show wrapped up in 2017, there has been some removal of the show in different Netflix regions.

On January 1st, 2022, three regions that have removed the show include: Netflix Australia, Netflix Germany, and Netflix Switzerland.

For all the people in Australia, this is the second time that they have seen the show leave Netflix. The first time was back in March 2019 before it became relicensed in January 2021. All 8 seasons have been set to be removed again, 2 years later.

When will The Vampire Diaries leave Netflix US?

Based on what we have seen so far, we can expect the show to be leaving in the next couple of months. According to, The Vampire Diaries will be leaving Netflix US on March 8th, 2022. Better get to binge watching!

After this date, there will only be 2 different countries that The Vampire Diaries will be watchable on Netflix: The United Kingdom and India.

In late November of 2020, the series did get removed from Netflix UK, but became relicensed in February 2021. There is no evidence on how long it will stay.

Furthermore, we can see the show leaving Netflix India as well but it is unknown as this point in time.
