In the new movie Free Guy, Guy (Ryan Reynolds) is an NPC, in the game Free City, who is incredibly optimistic and goes around telling everyone, “Don’t have a good day, have a great day.”

Guy sees one of the online players, Molotov girl, and does something completely outside of his coding by talking to her, not using his usual catchphrase.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Free Guy is a fun, action-packed sci-fi comedy about finding one’s purpose.

Waititi has directed films like Thor Ragnarok, The Suicide Squad, and Jojo Rabbit. He likes to put himself in the films he directs as a supporting character. In Free Guy, he played the role of Antoine, the owner of a big gaming company, and the main antagonist of the story.

The game Free City, where the movie mainly takes place, was based off of the popular video game Grand Theft Auto. The protagonists of the story, Guy, Millie, also known as Molotov girl (Jodie Comer), and Keys (Joey Keery) have to find proof that Antoine stole Millie and Key’s game and used it to program Free City.

As a PG 13 movie, Free Guy was allowed one f-bomb which was used hilariously by Reynolds, and had the whole theater laughing.

The movie is incredibly funny, and even includes appearances from a handful of celebrities. Since the movie is based on video games, there are brief appearances from famous gamers like Ninja, Pokimane, and Jacksepticeye.

There is also a short cameo from Channing Tatum, who plays one of the avatars in Free City, and another from Chris Evans who plays himself.

Overall the movie was very good and had just the right amount of humor, action, and sincere moments. Free guy was definitely one of the better movies released this year, and is giving everyone a little bit more to laugh about as we push forward in getting through these crazy times.
