After a phenomenal prelim card UFC 300 continued with an even better main card. With what was in my opinion one of the best main cards of all time with not one, not two, but three title fights and a whole bunch of upcoming and ranked contenders. These fights had many make or break moments so now lets continue and break down the fights.
The first fight of the night was between Bo Nickal and Cody Brundage. I predicted that Nickal would dominate this fight and for the most part he did. Unfortunately for Nickal I think he might have gotten exposed a bit more than people expected. For the short amount of time he was against Brundage on the feet he looked very uncomfortable. Fortunately for Nickal once he got Brundage on the ground there was not much he could do, getting the submission victory three minutes and thirty eight seconds into round two.
The next fight was Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan. This fight was very make or break situation for both fighters. Arman Tsarukyan is an up and coming fighter who has been climbing his way through the ranks and is probably up for a title shot very soon. Oliveira however, is the former lightweight champion and an expert finisher, this was must win for both guys because whoever won will probably get a title shot. The fight was very back and forth with Oliveira locking in multiple submission attempts and Tsarukyan somehow escaped all of them. After three rounds the fight went to Tsarukyan winning by decision.
The next fight of the night was my personal favorite and won the fight of the night bonus, Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway. This fight was one of the most elite displays of striking I have ever seen. Holloway however was exceptional. Contrary to my pick Holloway looked perfect all night landing strike after strike to Gaethje. He was going to cruise his way to a decision victory but in true BMF fashion with ten seconds left he pointed to the ground to stand with Gaethje and just throw in the pocket. With one second left Holloway threw an overhand catching Gaethje and folding him onto the canvas winning by knockout and winning the BMF title.
The Co-Main event was between Zhang Weili fighting Yan Xiaonan. Although Yan was able to land some solid strikes and even win a round against Weili, it wasn’t that much of a fight as the rest of the fight Weili was undeniably dominant. She won by unanimous decision to yet again retain the Woman’s Straw-weight championship.
The Main event of the night was the return of former light-heavyweight champion Jamal Hill vs. Alex Pereira who pretty much looks unbeatable right now. Many people coming into this fight thought that Pereira was going to run right through Hill but I was a little optimistic. However I shouldn’t have been. Immediately following Hill hitting Pereira with a nut shot he prevented Herb Dean from stopping the fight. Within about five seconds he stepped in and knocked out Hill with that ridiculous left that Pereira has. Finishing the fight and retaining the belt three minutes and fourteen seconds into round one.
