Tutoring is Back!

Tutoring is Back!

Another thing that COVID has affected is tutoring.  For the 2019-2020 school year, you could always find people getting tutored after school, and you could always find people to get help from.  However, in the last couple of years, the tutoring department hasn’t been able to function because of restrictions.

Now, tutoring is starting up again, but do people still remember how it works?

NHS and Student Council are the main groups that conduct tutoring for people at Holy Family.  However, most of the juniors and possibly some seniors have never helped with in-school tutoring.

Bob Comeaux, one of the leaders of NHS, said, “I’m glad tutoring is back because it’s a free and easy service for students.  Without tutoring last year, it was hard for the NHS members to accumulate service hours, but it was harder on the students who needed help because they had no place to go except for the teachers.  As a teacher, tutoring helps me because I don’t have to spend as much time helping students, even though I don’t mind, but the most important thing for students is that they’re working with someone who understands their struggles.  I’m hoping that since tutoring is back, students will have access to high quality tutoring, and will feel like they’re doing better.”

Tammy Schneider, another NHS leader, said, “I’m glad tutoring is back, I think it’s a beneficial resource for our students who are struggling to have a peer help them.  Having no tutoring last year was hard because teachers needed it and we couldn’t provide it very well because we could only help via Zoom.  Student tutoring helps because I think that it’s easier for them to hear it from their peers, and hearing their strategies helps the kids understand something better.  I think that it’s always nice to have somebody else in the room that can help, because then I can teach more people at a time.”

Junior Ansley Schnelle said, “I’ve never tutored before, but I think it will be a good way to help the community and to get to know more people at Holy Family.  I am excited about this because it will be a good way to try something new.  To me, it’s important use your skills to help other people.  I think that tutoring will help people at Holy Family get to know each other more, and help each other with grades.”

Now that tutoring is back in session, people can get the help they need easier.  Getting tutored is never a bad thing, if you don’t understand something, get the help you need.  From freshmen Biology to Sophomore Brit. Lit., these tutoring groups will help you, so feel free to reach out if you need it.

You can even just get tutored so you can hang out with that senior you’ve got a crush on.
