Q: How do you feel heading into state this weekend?
A: I’m really nervous, it’s the first time in like 20 years where anyone could go home with a state title. There are seven teams that are all totally capable of winning. I hope it’s just, but all it comes down to is who was the best and who had the best race on that day.
Q: Are you excited for your last high school race?
A: It’s bittersweet, I’m excited to be done. I still have a few higher-level postseason races coming up. States always very stressful so it will be exciting when it’s done. I’m excited for the next chapter and to run at the college level but also high school running is all I’ve known for the last four years of my life.
Q: What are you going to miss the most about high school cross country?
A: This is the last time I’ll be running with this specific group of girls who I’ve ran with for these four years, so ill probably miss that the most. These girls have become like my family and honestly sometimes I see them more than my own siblings.
Q: What would your advice be for an incoming freshman?
A: It’s one of those sports where you get from it what you put into it, it will take everything from you physically, emotionally, and mentally. It’s a really fun sport but you have to try and find the fun parts and not think about the parts that suck. Cross country quickly becomes one big family so it’s a great sport where you can find people who will always be there for you.
Q: What are you most excited for in your next chapter?
A: I’m excited to compete at the next level where you get a little more recognition. I’m excited to have teammates who are all commited to the process and are all relying on me and I can rely on them. I know all of them are dedicated to the sport and dedicated to doing there best. I’m not there just because i’m good at it, i’m there because I want to be. It’s a chance to get better, meet new people, and form a new family.
