On Thursday October 23rd the Denver Nuggets faced the Golden State Warriors and it was an overtime thriller. Both teams showcased an impressive offensive game.
Many Nuggets fans were hopeful to see everything come together with the big offseason moves. Nikola Jokic dropped a 20 point triple double and became the fifth person to open up the season with back to back triple doubles in the first two opening games. Jamal Murray had a nice 25 point game and looks good coming into the season. other notable contributions were Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jonas Valanciunas as they both put up good numbers off the bench.
However, the star of the game was Aaron Gordon. Gordon showed up to the game ready to play. He came out the gate knocking down 3-pointer after 3-pointer. The whole night Gordon could not miss and went 10-for-11 on 3-pointers alone. Fans reactions were noticeable after he missed one 3-pointer. His midrange was just as good and he went 7-for-10 on some contested fadeaways. Unlike Shai Gilgeous-Alexander he only needed six free throws to get to 50 points. Gordon had the most efficient 50 point game in NBA history and had a true shooting percentage of 105%.
However, the night was spoiled by Steph Curry’s. Curry had a 42 point game and gave the Nuggets 12 unanswered points in the clutch time of the 4th quarter. From there the game went into overtime and the Warriors squeaked out the win in OT, marking the Nuggets start on a loss.
There is a lot to look forward to as a Nuggets fan as things got better with a comfortable win over the Phoenix Suns. The bench shoed up in a big way and the starters still look very good. Jokic got another triple double and Aaron Gordon displayed a great game with a 360 alley-oop as the highlight of the game.
