The 4A state tournament taking place at Aurora Sports Park this weekend is sure to be a packed field of competitors. The bracket features schools from all over the state, including schools like Windsor, Holy Family, Pueblo Central, and Cheyenne Mountain. It could be anyone’s trophy; the first round will begin at 10 am on Friday. Here’s the first-round preview.
Last week, Holy Family’s softball team won its eighth straight regional title. They immediately began looking forward to bigger and better things, like another state title. Finishing the regular season 21-4, they’re heading into the 4A tournament seeded No. 3. They will begin the first round of play against the 21-5 D’Evelyn Jaguars on Friday at 12:15.
Number 1 Windsor went 23-2 on the season and was undefeated in league play. The fell only to Pappillion-LaVista South a Nebraska based team and to Holy Family 4-0 in their second matchup on 10/9. They will play the first round against the 17-9 Roosevelt Roughriders Friday morning at 10 a.m.
A matchup featuring only Pueblo teams, will begin at 12:15 on Friday between number seven Pueblo County and number ten Pueblo Central. Another matchup that should be close and really could go either way is number eight Severance vs number nine Cheyenne Mountain.
The top eight teams that advance from the first round will play later that same day with the second round starting at 2:30 p.m. Saturday morning the top four teams in the state will play to advance to the title game at 10 a.m. A trophy will be given Saturday afternoon when the top two teams in the 4A bracket play for a state title.
