The Holy Family medic cart was stolen off of Holy Family High school property early last Tuesday morning. I spoke with our security director Michael Couture about the missing cart.
Q-When did you guys realize the cart was gone?
A- “It was brought to my attention on Wednesday morning and they told me that the cart was no longer there because our medic didn’t need to use our cart because there was no more sports going on. So I bought up the cameras, went back through the weekend, so i found the spot that it was supposed to be in. Started going backwards though time, using the cameras to locate when at 1 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday I see a flashlight come up alongside the cart. The cart backs up and it drives away through the east through the school parking lot and then it disappears as it gets off school property. ”
Q-What did you guys do to try and find the cart?
A- “We filed a police report, we got it in as a stolen vehicle, hoping that somebody maybe took it for a joy ride somewhere and then it would get dumped and then it would get impounded by the police and we would get it back. I then received a phone call rom a citizen saying that they had seen it parked by last Friday by a power plant near Riverdale Ridge High school. Monday morning I drove over there and I didn’t see it. I then got permission from the President of Holy Family to post the vehicle and its information on Facebook.”
Q-When did you find the cart?
A-” I got a call that said I think I’ve got your cart. I then sent the Thornton Police over to Riverdale Ridge High School and it was parked in a locked fence area attached to the school. We then sent over the 27J security, they came and cut the lock because it wasn’t there lock. They then identified it was being our cart and they had it towed over to us, and it was released to us”
Q-What did the cart look like when it was returned?
A-“They had spray painted over the medic sign and our little Holy Family stickers, and they did steal the items of the back of the cart like the back board and our big silver box that had the AED in it and the medics equipment.”
Q-What’s the next step now that the cart has been returned?
A-“We have the cart back now and we are working with the Thornton Police Department and identifying possible suspects based on video surveillance that we have, and waiting to hear, hopefully that we’ll be able to prosecute”
We will continue to update as we find more information about the stolen cart.
