Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) is a reality television series where celebrities are paired with professional ballroom dancers to compete in choreographed routines. Couples are judged by a panel of experts and viewer votes, with the lowest-scoring pair eliminated each week until a champion is crowned.
Each season, a new cast of celebrities-from actors and musicians to athletes and social media personalities-is partnered with experienced ballroom dancers. Some familiar faces you may know from prior seasons include Charli D’Amelio, Zendaya, Jordan Fisher, and Nicole Scherzinger. Season 34 has been complimented on their variety of a cast. Season 34 of DWTS cast includes: Jen Affleck, Hilaria Baldwin, Jordan Chiles, Baron Davis, Alix Earle, Dylan Efron, Corey Feldman, Danielle Fishel, Elaine Hendrix, Scott Hoying, Robert Irwin, Lauren Jauregui, Whitney Leavitt, and Andy Richter.
Each week, couples perform themed routines based on a variety of ballroom and Latin dance styles, such as the cha-cha, waltz, tango, and freestyle. Season 34 has many themed nights fans are looking forward to. This past episode, week 4 was Disney Night. This week meant that each couple had to perform to a designated Disney song. Alix Earle this past week performed a Viennese Waltz to “Once Upon a Dream” from Maleficent. Every couple performed as well performed a themed dance around a certain Disney movie. There are also many other weeks that are heavily themed like Wicked Night and Halloween Night.
One of the worst parts of DWTS is judging and elimination. A panel of judges scores the routines based on technique, performance, and overall impression. This seasons judges include Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli. Even though the judges scores play a huge park into the rankings, the viewers votes heavily weight that decision. Viewers can cast votes for their favorite couples via phone or email every show day. The judges scores are combined with audience votes to determine which couple is eliminated each week.
At the end of the season the final remaining couples will compete for the coveted Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, named in honor of late head judge. So if you are wanting a certain couple to make it to the finale, make sure you vote for them every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT!
