In the coastal city of Hurghada, Egypt lives a 44-year-old wrestler named Ashraf Mahroua. His nickname is “Kabonga”, and he pulled a 700-ton ship with his teeth! His goal was to set a Guinness World Record.
Ashraf is from Ismailia and has already impressed many with his strength. Earlier this year he pulled a train and before that he moved a locomotive and a truck. His reputation as the strongest man has made him a local hero in his city and children even run up to him in the street.
On Saturday Ashraf pulled a ship weighing 700 tons and then additionally pulled two ships at once weighing 1,150 tons all together. “I pulled them both to show the world that I am the strongest man” he said. His plans are to send photos and videos of his attempts for verification to Guinness world records. He wears a mouthguard, but he says he has no concerns for his teeth while doing this. The current record is from 2018 for pulling a 614-ton ship.
To prepare for the challenge he followed a strict diet which mainly consisted of protein and iron. This included eating eggs, chicken, and fish while training three times a day for two hours each session. His love for strength sports began in his early childhood. He enjoyed lifting heavy objects and playing sports like kung fu and kickboxing. His friends encouraged him to continue building his strength when they watch him flip tires and move cars.
His strength and determination to continue his training have made him an inspirational figure in Egypt. His next goal is to a 263,000- ton submarine and he plans to send a request to the Egyptian presidency for permission. He also hopes to someday pull a plane using only his eyelid muscles.
