With only one more preseason game left for the Colorado Avalanche before their season opener on Tuesday, October 17th, against the LA Kings, the remaining prospects are close to making the roster. Let’s take a look at some of the top contenders.
Probably the top contender to make the final roster is number 54 Gavin Brindley. Acquired in a summer deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, trading players Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood. The 20-year-old played two years at the University of Michigan with 37 goals across 81 games. In the four preseason games he’s played, he’s scored three goals and ended up playing on a line with Ross Colton and Jack Drury. In a press conference following the 4-1 win against Dallas Head Coach Jared Bednar explained, “were putting him in some spots to see how he handles it, and he’s been impactful on both sides of the puck.”
The other player you should be on the lookout for on the final roster in the coming days is number 36 Matt Steinburg. He played one game for the Avalanche last year but got suspended following a fight. Steinburg is one who would be good addition to add a defensive and big dude to the roster.
A player you can expect to see playing up and down for either the Avalanches AHL affiliate the Colorado Eagles, or the Colorado Avalanche is defenseman Jack Achan. In 69 games played for the Eagles he has five goals and 36 events for a total of 41 points. With the injuries plaguing defenseman Samual Girard, Achan could have a shot of playing for the Avalanche more often than not.
With that being said there are very few spots for the top prospects coming out of preseason due to the powerhouse the Avalanche team already is.
