The Honda NSX is a rare Japanese car that enthusiasts love to see. The NSX first gen was produced from 1990-2005 and was groundbreaking from the start. It was an all aluminum body which was a first for a supercar and made it incredibly lightweight. The engine was a mid mounted 3.0 liter V6 with Honda’s V-TEC system. A rear wheel drive that could produce 290 horsepower which doesn’t seem like much but the car was very lightweight making it have a great power to weight ratio.
The NSX was a supercar designed by Honda but also had great reliability. It made forĀ a fast ride for track racing or car meets, But, it had bulletproof reliability and comfort requiring very little maintenance. The engine also offered affordable parts making easier repairs and replacements for a cheaper price.
The impact of the NSX was big for the industry. It inspired many new supercars like the McLaren f1, Lamborghini, and Tesla allĀ because of its lightweight body. The interior was designed with the driver in mind and included great visibility, ergonomics, and modern features like climate control, stereo and cup holders which was new for supercars. The NSX challenged European supercars in both speed and reliability. Companies like Ferrari were forced to rethink and redesign their supercar design for more comfort.
The NSX had input with F1 world champion Ayrton Senna and Japanese F1 driver Satoru Nakajima. All their advice and input lead to a smooth ride with new racing technology and great handling. The aerodynamics of the NSX was inspired by f-16 fighter jet. The inspiration lead to a cab forward pointed for reduced drag and a long tail for extra stability. The design of the body kept airflow in mind and kept cooling in mind. Air was directed to the engine to cool components making the ride smoother at higher RPM’s.
