Le Colonial, a French-Vietnamese fusion restaurant located in the Heart of Cherry Creek, is one of the best Asian fusion restaurants in the whole state. The restaurant offers incredibly unique dishes and the atmosphere and experience of a Michelin-star restaurant in South Florida.
When first entering the restaurant, guests are met with a beautiful array of tropical vegetation and modernistic traditional Vietnamese art. The Vegetation, bright green miniature palm trees, and thick jungle plants overwhelm the atmosphere. Ceiling fans and, for the summer, an open-air concept allowing natural wind to blow, add to the tropical feel. They have a separate bar that is detached from the restaurant itself, offering a place to relax before sitting down for dinner. The bar offers a unique feel of a traditional, relaxed, luxurious place to have a drink that is often found in a tropical setting.
When your table is ready, a hostess will seat you at a table where you are greeted immediately by waiters and waitresses asking your preference on water and if you would like a drink. The service is incredible; their attention to detail and emphasis on perfecting the little things are the most notable features they should be known for. You can trust their opinions and suggestions on food and drinks, and, honestly, it is recommended that you let them pick dishes based on your favorite flavors and personal preferences.
The food, by far the best part of the whole experience, builds off of simple dishes with personal and traditional touches that allow for the true flavors to burst when taking bite after bite. A very popular dish to start with, that is also highly recommended, is the Cha Gio. Cha Gio is their version of a crispy pork and shrimp egg roll. They aren’t the standard egg rolls though. They are fried and filled the traditional way with the meat, some sauce, and vegetables but where the dish catches its attention is the large lettuce leaves, cilantro, and red jalapeno that is meant to cradle the egg roll and eaten as a whole. A sweet sauce is given and meant to be poured over the combination allowing for a delicious final touch. Egg rolls are very common in any Asian cuisine, but the egg rolls Le Colonial offers are the best I have ever eaten.
Every dish they offer is unique in its own way, however, the crispy red snapper meant to serve four is one of the most incredible fish I have ever had to eat in my entire life. The fish is fried to perfection, glazed, and seasoned. The fish comes out steaming hot and is cut a de-boned at the table by the wait-staff. The fish comes with a variety of greens and the large lettuce leaves meant to enhance the flavor through your own personal liking. The fish has an intense flavor, a flavor that you would never expect to result from a fish. The meat is tender, the skin, which you can eat because the fish is fried, is crispy and delicious. This dish though, is very expensive and is priced based on the market for Red Snapper. It is justified though due to the fact the dish is meant to serve up to four people.
The incredible service and food does come at a cost and the unique atmosphere makes finding a reservation somewhat difficult. It is all worth the time, effort, and money. If you want to have a meal that is truely incredible, I highly recommend you visit Le Colonial.
