Driving out of the school parking lot, most students get in their car and turn on the car to hear some type of music playing. Whatever genre of music it is that our students or teachers at Holy Family listen to, most can agree that music is a part of daily life. But what are students and teachers actually listening to right now?
I asked around 10 students and 6 teachers to share their favorite songs or favorite artists. The answers I got covered almost every genre of music. From old rock to R&B to classical.
The most common artists among students included Megan Moroney, SZA, Jon Pardi, The Weeknd, YoungBoy, and Luke Combs. Some very popular songs among students included “Yebba’s Heartbreak” by Drake, “Next to you” by Ole Sixty, “California” by Jon Pardi, and “luther” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
A few students mentioned how hard it was to pick just one favorite song or artist because for most students, their taste in music changes depending on their mood or the “vibe”.
Some favorites from teachers included Mr. Galmish’s favorite artists being Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and Show Pan. He did not have a favorite song because there were too many to choose from. Mr. Good talked about how his favorite artist is Zach Williams because he does a lot of Christian stuff and that’s his favorite genre of music. His favorite song by Zach Williams being “Chainbreaker”. Mr. Havey’s favorite band is U2, shocking to many, with his favorite song from them being “Raised by Wolves” because of the emotion and fire it carries. Mr Havey also gave a tip saying, “So if you play it, make sure to turn it up to 11.” After asking Mr Greenmyer who his favorite artist was, he didn’t hesitate to say “Tupac, not Drake. Drake is Bad” with his favorite Tupac song being “Changes”. Next, I asked Mr Yunt. Mr Yunt said his favorite artist is Counting Crows, mentioning how “Amy Hit the Atmosphere” was his favorite song by him. Lastly, I made sure to ask Mrs. Saulino and she said, “My favorite artist is the Rolling Stones, and my favorite song of the Stones is Satisfaction”. She mentioned how she has been to every concert of the Rolling Stones here in Denver.
Even without an online poll, the responses showed how wide-ranging our school’s taste in music is. So, although a lot of responses were very similar, it’s nice to see that everyone likes something different. The songs may be different, but the habit is the same because music is a part of every student here at Holy Family.
