Last Friday at the Holy Family vs Lewis Palmer football game the Holy Family spirit teams put out a nearly flawless routine. This routine was a sneak peek of their newest combined game-day piece that they will compete this coming competitive season.
Even though it appeared flawless, due to unforseen circumstances the cheer team had to do a full re-block just minutes before this routine was performed. I spoke with the Holy Family cheer coaches Monique Dominguez and Ally Merrion about this performance.
When we went to re-block Monique told us, “You guys are so capable of this. You have worked so hard to do this routine and I have full confidence that you will hit this routine.”
This helped me and my fellow cheerleaders have the confidence to go out there and do the best we can. After we went and hit that routine Monique and I spoke. She said, “We just did that!(pointing to the field) That performance showed me how capable my athletes are and how far you all will go this season!”
The confidence that Monique had in us made all of us trust ourselves and realize that we could do this. We leaned on each other to help each other to this routine because after all, all we have is each other when we are out on that field.
Ally Merrion said, “I was so proud of the team for their resilience. It’s incredibly difficult to rework a routine on the spot, not every team is capable of doing that. The varsity team’s ability to think on the spot and work together makes me excited for our upcoming competition season.” As Ally was once a Holy Family cheerleader having her on the sidelines with us as we reworked this routine was a gift.
The main takeaway about this night was how capable this team is, and how much potential this team has.
