Terence Crawford decided to move up 2 weight classes to challenge Canelo about a year ago. He was prepping relentlessly as he wanted to keep his undefeated record.
Before the fight even started, Crawford was very confident in that he could defeat Canelo. Some might say he was arrogant because he got a watch that had “42-0” engraved in it, and he was saying he was going to in a press conference. Crawford was the underdog in the fight and he was trying to prove he can win.
To start the fight, Crawford came out hot, landing a few clean hits. However, Canelo was also landing good hits as well and round one ended 10-9 with Crawford in the lead. As the rounds went on both boxers were landing hard body shots with occasional headshot. In the middle rounds you could see that Crawford was in control of the fight and was squeaking out a few more hits on Canelo every round. In the 12th round Crawford lands a hard left and has Canelo stumbling. This was the dagger as Canelo was slowing down and couldn’t land any more hits on Crawford.
Terence Crawford was declared the winner by unanimous decision. This was a massive upset in the boxing world because many people took it as a joke when Crawford said he as moving up weight classes. He was seen as the underdog but that did not stop him. His confidence showed in pre game interviews and online. Everyone doubted him but in the end he came out on top taking the boxing world by storm and he became the first person to achieve 3 different weight class belts. Just a display of complete dominance and dedication for Crawford making him an all time great for the sport. Crawford shows he can win in a variety of ways whether that is a clean knockout or he simply outbox his opponent.
