Owen Cooper won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie on Sunday, September 14th, for his work on the Netflix miniseries Adolescence
Along with Cooper, nominees in the limited-series supporting actor category included Javier Bardem for his performance in Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, FX’s Dying For Sex actor Rob Delaney, Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent star Peter Sarsgaard, Bill Camp, also of Presumed Innocent and Netflix’s Adolescence actor Ashley Walters.
Among the big winners at the 2025 Emmys, the breakout Netflix show Adolescence won six awards. The show’s young star, 15-year-old Cooper, made history as the youngest male winner ever in any acting category. The previous record holder was Scott Jacoby, who was 16 years old when he won a Primetime Emmy in 1973 for his role in That Certain Summer.
“I was nothing about three years ago, I’m here now,” Cooper added. “It may have my name on this award but it really belongs to to the people behind the camera and all the cast.”
Cooper captivated audiences as teen murderer Jamie Miller in Netflix’s Adolescence, each episode filmed across one consecutive take, also starring Stephen Graham, Christine Tremarco, Erin Doherty, and Ashley Walters. “Adolescence” is the second most-watched Netflix show of all time, behind Wednesday. Adolescence is also the most-watched United Kingdom (U.K.) title ever on the platform, following in the footsteps of Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer.
“Standing up here… wow this is so surreal” Cooper said will picking up the award. “Tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out of your comfort you can achieve anything in life.”
Cooper proves that age does not matter in the world. A 15-year-old kids, winning awards for how great of an actor he is. Cooper also shows how, even though he had never acted before, his hard work and determination, took him to the best award anyone can get for a television show.
