I got the honor to interview one of the many new teachers starting at Holy Family Rachel Lawhead. I asked her why she decided to come teach her and she said she was inspired to come to Holy Family because it has been a part of her life for a very long time. She was a student here in 2017 and 2018. Her family has also been very involved, and she loves the community and thought it would be nice to come home.
She was previously a middle school teacher at Sacred Heart of Jesus. I asked her what was different between teaching Sacred Heart of Jesus and Holy Family, and she said, “The role of a middle school teacher is a lot different from the role of a high school teacher,” she said. “It’s been an adjustment but definitely a good one!”
I also asked her how her first week went and she said it was good and she’s very excited to learn all the new names and faces. Her favorite part of Holy Family so far has been how welcoming everybody has been.
She comes from a big family and recently got married over the summer. Mr. Yunt attended the wedding and said, “It was awesome!”
Her husband is the athletic trainer here Ryan Lawhead and they met while she coached volleyball here right after college.
I interviewed one of her students Priya Lucas and she said, “I like how she makes relationships with her students while also teaching in affective way.”
She loves the notes and group discussions. She also said the workload was pretty light and not too overwhelming. She also mentioned how nice it is to not have a seating chart so she can sit with all of her friends. Mrs. Lawhead was also her volleyball coach and she said she did a great job and taught her many good lessons on and off the court.
