This past weekend was the Class individual state tournament. It took place in Colorado Springs at Memorial Park. It was a three day event and all of Holy Family’s singles and doubles teams qualified from the regional tournament. The first day every team played and if you won you would play again in the quarterfinals. The results of the first day were the following:
NO. 1 SINGLES (ANNABELLE KENNY)
First round — Mira Leon, Colorado Academy def. Annabelle Kenny, 6-2, 6-1.
NO. 2 SINGLES (LAUREN STONEHOCKER)
First round — Lauren Stonehocker def. Maelys Gibson, Fountain Valley, 6-2, 6-0.
Quarterfinals — Josephine Carter, Severance def. Stonehocker, 6-4, 6-4.
NO. 3 SINGLES (RAELYNN PICKUP)
First round — Raelynn Pickup def. Myla Moore, Severance, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Quarterfinals — Emma Bosco, Evergreen def. Pickup, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
NO. 1 DOUBLES (OLIVIA KINGSLEY/REAGAN LEARY)
First round — Olivia Kingsley/Reagan Leary def. Abby Noto/Kate Bosco, Evergeen, 6-3, 7-5.
Quarterfinals — Kingsley/Leary def. Lyla Baker/Leslie Jimenez, Steamboat Springs, 6-2, 6-2.
NO. 2 DOUBLES (MALLORY CLERKIN/ANNA BARDEAU)
First round — Mallory Clerkin/Anna Bardeau def. Maddie Salazar/Bentley Steyaert, Resurrection Christian, 6-3, 7-5.
Quarterfinals — El Allen-Bonney/Lhadze Olsen, Peak to Peak def. Clerkin/Bardeau, 7-5, 6-1.
NO. 3 DOUBLES (ELLA FRANKO/THERESA LA)
First round — Ella Franko/Theresa La def. Karley Strole/Kylie Baskin, C.S. Christian, 6-0, 6-0.
Quarterfinals — Franko/La def. Carolee Lis/Angela Leider, D’Evelyn, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
NO. 4 DOUBLES (MILAN TRIEU/LOLA ALLEN)
First round — Lila DeJager/Hayden Logan, Eaton def. Milan Trieu/Lola Allen, 6-0, 6-2.
After the first day, two doubles teams qualified to play in semifinals; Reagan Leary and senior Olivia Kingsley, as well as the No. 3 doubles team of Theresa La and myself. All of the other teams would get playback matches for third and fourth if the team they lost to made it to the championship match. If they won their play back match they would play on the 3rd day with all the finals matches.
After the second day no one except the No. 2 doubles team of Mallory Clerkin and Anna Bardeau competed and they ended up fourth.
Our team as a whole got the sportsmanship award for state.
