Hello Everyone. Habebmus Papem!!
Yes it’s true. There is a new pope. Thank you Mr. Remington for the showing us the livestream video yesterday. I was shocked to see how fast it was decided, but then even more surprised to find out he is American. Our first American pope. This is a very exciting time for all Americans!
Robert Francis Prevost is the head of the Catholic Church as of May 8th 2025. He is the first American Pope but he has been considered as a Latin American Cardinal, because he spent many of his years in Peru.
Robert Francis Prevost will be known as Leo XIV. He is 69 years old and he will be the 267th occupant of the throne of Saint Peter.
Our new Pope is fluent in English, Spanish, and French. Yesterday, Pope Leo XIV gave his first message in Spanish and Italian. He also spoke in Latin during his blessing.
My opinion is that our Pope seems smart and devoted. He spent his past 44 years in the church serving as a priest as well as a bishop. I’m lucky that I got to witness this!
So now it’s time to interview Mr. Havey on his thoughts on our new pope
“I can’t believe this!!!! x4 This person has been called from there work. I did not see it coming at all and it really means a lot to me because I love Chicago so much. And I kind of know it a little bit. Looking at his pictures, it looks like my uncle or something. The new Holy Father is from the South Side Chicago? I’m just really excited, I’m hopeful. Throughout the whole world there’s a lot of division so I hope he can be a bridge holder. We all have lots of responsibilities, I’ve always found a lot of inspiration from studying the Popes. You know me, I like talking about the Popes in class, and it’s kind of amazing to have history unfold in your classroom. Very excited.”
This interview was a 10/10! Thank you Mr. Havey!
That concludes our story for today. I am anticipating to learn more and get to know our new pope.
