Starting last Thursday the NFL draft took place in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This draft class was stacked all around with quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, and all sorts of defensive players. The first round had many supirses throughout the entire round including one of the biggest draft slides in NFL history, in Shadaur Sanders. The first overall pick was Miami quarterback Cam Ward drafted by the Tennesee Titans. Next up went the freak athlete Travis Hunter to the Jacksonville Jaguars where he is expected to play both wider receivers and cornerbacks. After that teams continued to load up on picks both offense and defense. The first major suprise happened when the broncos drafted Jahdae Barron, a corner back out of Texas. The bronos had the best secondary in the league last year but they desided to draft the best corner back in the draft to secure and lock down their secodary.
The headline of the first roudn came at pick 25 where the New York Giants decided to trade up. After picking Abdul Carter 3rd overall many people were questioning where they would find their quarterback. When they traded uo everyone knew a QB was coming of the board. Many suspected it to be Shadaur sanders who was still available after be passed on by teams like the Browns and Steelers who needed a starting Quarterback. The pick was announced and it was Ole Miss Quarterback Jackson Dart. This was a huge shcok but overall a great pick by the Giants.
After that the eagles and chiefs were able to select athletic defensive players to help lock down their defense, which ended the first round. The main story that came Thursday night was “Why is Shadaur Sanders falling and who is going to end up with him?” There were still a few teams in need of a QB so not all hope was lost for Sanders.
As day two started Sanders continued to fall out of the second and third round even though there were three other Quarterbacks taken above him. Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe and Dillion Gabriel were all drafter by the third round which started lessening Shadaur’s chances of being drafted as a Starter and more towards a backup. Eventually he was drafted to the Browns in the 5th round of the draft to a team that currently has 5 QB’s rostered. It will now be up to Shadaur to prove it was a mistake for teams passing on him for other quarterback options.
