Today, on April 11th, a little more than a hundred students of Holy Family attended the March for Life in Denver. This is the second annual March for Life in Denver to occur. The March for Life consistes of a rally and march raising awareness for the pro-life cause through peaceful protest.
The day started with the mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Denver, presided by Auxiliary Bishop Jorge Rodriguez. Bishop Jorge Rodriguez, in his homily stated how shocked he was to see the presence of so many youth in this fight for life but that this how God works, through the youth like He did with the Virgin Mary. He reassured us that God is with us and that He will carry the fight for life. He said that the fight for life is all about love.
After the mass at the Cathedral, we went to the Capitol building a block over where various speakers spoke. These speakers included Jennie Bradley Lichter, president of the March for Life, who addressed the new bill being proposed that would allow $2 million a year of money from taxpayers to pay for abortions. The argument of the bill is that it is cheaper to administer abortions rather than to carry out a pregnancy. The March for Life addressed this issue along with a letter from the Bishops of Colorado to Governor Jared Polis, asking him to veto the bill because it is inhumane towards the life of babies.
After the speakers talked, we marched around the block where the State Capitol is at 12:00 pm. As we marched, people started singing the Salve Regina.
Many schools attended the March for Life including the high schools Bishop Machebeuf and John Paul the Great. Along with these schools, many adults with their children also attended, supporting the pro-life movement.
