On March 19 through the 21, some of the Holy Family juniors had spring Kairos. The Kairos retreat is separated girls from boys, the girls went to Highlands Camp and the boys went to Annunciation Heights.
Kairos means “in God’s time” and it is a Christian retreat that is based on deepening faith, identity and relationships. The retreat originated from the 1960s and it started in the Diocese of Brooklynn. After having originated it slowly became popular in Catholic high schools across the United States especially during the 1990s.
During the retreat the weather was beautiful, although windy the sun was out and it did not snow a lot while we were there. During recreation time, the girls would go out and go on hikes or they would do arts and crafts where many girls made rosary’s. Many of the girls also spent the time playing board games. This time of recreation allowed for all of us girls to bond with each other and also to bond with other girls outside of our friend groups.
Each morning, a group of girls would go out and go on a hike to see the sunrise and explore the beautiful nature in the mountains. There were trails all around, going up hills creating a beautiful scenery that was picture perfect.
From Highlands Camp, there was a perfect view of Long’s Peak, and you could see it covered in snow. During the day throughout the talks the sun would shine on the snow on Long’s Peak and brighten the whole room.
The Kairos retreat is a beautiful experience that truly helps one grow in their faith and to see life in a different perspective. It is also a great experience to bond with other people in your class that you don’t normally bond with on a daily basis.
