With the NBA trade deadline approaching teams are working to get their team in playoff form or a rebuild state. The weekend was hit with two massive blockbuster trades that went down.
The first and by far biggest trade of the year was Luka Doncic, last year’s scoring leader and five time NBA First Team selection was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers for the defensive big man Anthony Davis.
This went down late Saturday night and had the whole league in shock. The full trade was a 3 team trade with players moving around the 2 all-stars: The Lakers received Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris from the Mavericks, who announced the trade Saturday night. Dallas acquired Davis, Max Christie, and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick.
The Utah Jazz received Jalen Hood-Schifino, the Los Angeles Clippers’ 2025 second-round pick, and the Mavericks’ 2025 second-round selection. The move shocked everyone because there were no trade rumors for either of the star players. Luka had no plans on leaving Dallas, especially after coming off a season of going to the NBA Finals this was definitely an interesting decision by the Mavs front office.
The Mavericks were motivated to move Doncic because of his constant conditioning concerns. There had been significant frustration within the organization about Doncic’s lack of discipline regarding his diet and conditioning, which team sources considered a major factor in his injury issues.
The second trade that went down was De’Aarron Fox the young superstar from the Sacramento Kings was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. In return, the Kings got Chicago Bulls guard, Zach Lavine. The full three team trade between the Kings, Bulls, and Spurs:
-
Spurs acquire: De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin
-
Kings acquire: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks (2025 from Charlotte, 2027 from San Antonio and 2031 from Minnesota), three second-round picks (2025 from Chicago, 2028 from Denver and its 2028 selection back)
-
Bulls acquire: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter and their own 2025 pick that San Antonio held
The NBA trade Deadline is this Thursday, so we will see if any other big or small moves go down.
