Hurricane-Like Storm that Hit Ireland

Storm Éowyn has hit Ireland with hurricane-like winds.

What started with just winds on Thursday, January 23, became a full blown storm.

Irish cities are without power and water and have been since Friday. Internet goes in and out, my aunt who lives near Galway, contacts the family every now and then, when she has service, updating us about the news. She said that her Christmas tree that was in her backyard appeared in her front yard during the winds that reached up to 183km/h the equivalent being 114mph. This broke the record of wind speeds that Ireland has ever had.

The storm has passed but more than 200,000 are still without power. Many stores are only taking cash because of the lack of power and not being able to scan cards. School has been canceled all through out Ireland since Friday because of the lack of power.

Many houses and buildings have been affected by the winds either destroyed or harmed.

The Cliffs of Moher were hit head on by the wind, sending water over the cliffs onto the land. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDU1glmoT_A/?igsh=cmNjemN6a29ndjgy.

The European Union is sending 17 generators in order to restore power to the many that are without.

Ireland was not the only country hit by Storm Éowyn. Being right next to Ireland, Scotland and Northern England have also been affected by the storm but Ireland took the hardest blow.

So far, two have been reported dead. Both were killed by falling trees that were ripped out of the ground by the strong winds.

England and France are sending help to Ireland, while also repairing at home, ranging from clean up crews to technicians in order to repair all the power problems that the storm caused.

Although, the storm was very harmful, it is not the worst storm that Ireland has experienced. The Big Wind of 1839, is the worst-ever recorded storm that has hit Ireland, but Storm Éowyn is in the top 5.
