What is the NBA Cup?

The NBA Cup is the in season tournament for the NBA. The winner gets the NBA Cup and cash prizes, and the way it works is a knockout type of style. It creates more of a competitive spirit in the middle of the regular season.

The losses teams take do count on their regular season record and the overall standings. The team that wins can get a various amount of cash prizes but the players and team get incentives.

The NBA added this to the season to bring more excitement to the fans before the playoffs and the winning team gets motivation to perform better with the increased incentives.

The courts changed look brings a new look to the NBA, last year the Los Angeles Lakers won last year and even hung a banner.

This year the New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors all won their division. Both Orlando and Dallas also moved forward into the playoffs.

The tournament gives the players a little bit more to compete in giving the fans extra something to bet on which brings more people to watch.

The semi final matchups consist of Thunder vs Rockets and Bucks against the Hawks after the Rockets beat the Warriors by one and the Thunder beat the Mavericks by 14 earlier this week. On the other side of the bracket Bucks beat the Magic by five and the Hawks beating the Knicks by eight.

Oklahoma City Thunder is the favorite to win this year and in second is the Milwaukee Bucks according to Vegas odds written by Jared Hochman on Covers.com.

The tournament was introduced the 2023-2024 season, so this is the second year this has been into play. I can see this tournament sticking around for a couple more years before the NBA decides to get rid of it. The NBA players don’t really see a point in this tournament so there may be a chance it won’t continue on for many more years.
