When I first was looking for colleges I was looking around for mostly Football teams and schools. I was talking to Mr. Wilson my college counselor and I told him that the college I was looking at didnt respond to me at all. He recommended to look at college named DePauw. So I reached out to the Offensive Line Coach for DePauw and he responded right back saying that he was on the phone with my coach as we speak. Coach Dodero called me down to the Strength room and told me that hes never felt that good about a certain coach before after getting off the phone. So I talked more and more to the coach and they offered me to be on their football program. I went and visited the football camp this past summer and it was unlike any other football camp that I have visited, it was actually fun and I enjoyed it a lot and when I toured campus afterward I absolutely loved the campus and each of the coaches are amazing and super inviting. I felt an immediate connection. The air was filled with excitement and possibility, and I couldn’t help but feel that this is where I am meant to be.
I’ve always been passionate about communications, and as I toured the facilities of the communications program, I could see myself thriving there. The professors I met were not only knowledgeable but also genuinely interested in helping their students succeed. They spoke about the program’s hands-on approach and how I can get in front of the camera within the first week, the opportunities for internships, and the close-knit community that supports each other. It was everything I had been looking for in a school.
But it wasn’t just the academics that drew me in. As a football player, I knew the importance of finding a team that felt like a family. When I met the coaches and players of the football team, I immediately felt at home. The head coach’s strategic leadership and dedication were evident and in his time at DePauw as a head Coach he certainly helped turn things around from what the program was before. The camaraderie among the players reminded me of the bond I shared with my team here at Holy Family. The wise cracking jokes that the coaches make to one another and to the players reminds me of the coaches here.
By the end of my visit, I knew that DePauw University is likely the perfect place for me. It offered the perfect blend of academic excellence in communications and a football team that felt like home. Unless God has a different plan for where he wants me to go, I think DePauw is the place for me.
