UFC 309 was the return of Jon “Bones” Jones and Stipe Miocic. The considered Greatest Of All Time in Jones and one of the best heavyweight champions in the business with Miocic, set to face off at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The main card consisted of first fight Mauricio Ruffy vs James Llontop going to decision with Ruffy coming out victorious in decision. Then in women’s flyweight Viviane Araujo vs Karine Silva also going to decision and Araujo winning.
Next up, the young phenom Bo Nickel from Rifle, Colorado vs. the veteran Paul Craig, with Nickel remaining undefeated via decision. The co-main event against Michael Chandler and Charles Olivera was full of entertainment. When Chandler is fighting entertainment and excitement follows, the fight started with Olivera controlling the first four rounds on the ground. Then round five begins and Chandler comes out swinging and rocks Olivera, as the fighters gas out towards the end of the fight, Olivera takes Chandler’s back. Trying to run out the time Chandler with nothing but will and heart he stands up and jumps back to slam him, not only once but twice.
Olivera came out with a victory in decision most likely earning him a title fight.
The main event Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic, high expense all week and everyone wondering if Jones continue his dominant legacy after being out for so long. People wondering if Stipe at 42 still has it in the ring. Jones dominated the first round after landing devastating ground and pound with elbows. Second round begins and Jones starts to find a home for that jab, dominates Stipe on the feet for round two.
In round 3 Jones is looking dominant like the Jones we have seen forever. Thirty seconds into the round Jones does a special spinning heel kick to Stipe’s ribs sending him to the ground and Jones getting the TKO finish. Proving his GOAT status and continues his longest streak of title defense in history and remains unbeaten in the UFC.
