One of the year’s biggest sporting events is set to go down as Iron Mike Tyson comes out of retirement after nearly two decades to go and fight Jake Paul. Paul has a youthful edge over Tyson, but Mike Tyson is a two time world champion, with his last championship coming in 2003. The main question being asked is how competitive and athletic a 58 year old Mike Tyson could be against a much younger 28-year-old former YouTuber, Jake Paul, in the prime of his career.
Weigh in for the event that happened on Thursday, when the two first met and Mike Tyson slapped Jake Paul during their first encounter before the fight. The fight streamed on Netflix tonight at 8:00 pm ET. Going into the fight, Paul was the favorite to win the fight with slightly better odds.
The fight started at 6:00 pm with three fights on the card before the main event. The first fight started with Neeraj Goyat def. Whindersson Nunes via unanimous decision (59-55, 60-54, 60-54). The second fight slot consisted of Shadasia Green def. Melinda Watpool via split decision (97-93, 94-96, 96-94). The night’s third and most entertaining fight consisted of Katie Taylor (c) def. Amanda Serrano via unanimous decision (95-94, 95-94, 95-94).
After these three fights, the main event started four hours after the start of the fight night, and the story of the night was less about the action the fights consisted of and more about the struggling Netflix servers trying to keep up with the number of viewers and its first live stream production. The main card was also a letdown for all those who paid to be in attendance at AT&T stadium because of the lack of action and poor views from the fans.
The fight started with 58-year-old Tyson having the energy and going after Paul. He won the first two rounds on the scorecard, but at his age, he was not able to keep up with Paul for the rest of the fight. Paul was able to pick Tyson apart easily after the first few rounds, where his youthful edge was the deciding factor. Paul went on to win the next six rounds, resulting in a win on unanimous decision (80-72, 79-73, 79-73).
After the fight finished, multiple interviews occurred where Tyson hinted at maybe fighting Jake’s older brother, Logan Paul, sometime in the future.
